A powerful display of community spirit was evident at Kilmallock Mart on Monday, April 6th, 2026, as farmers, families, and supporters came together for a special Charity Calf Sale in aid of two worthy organisations, and in memory of the late Danny Deady.
Marking the first anniversary of Danny’s passing, the event was not only a fundraiser but also a heartfelt tribute to a man who was deeply woven into the fabric of the mart and his own community. A respected auctioneer and a familiar face to many, Danny was fondly remembered throughout the day, with many remarking that he would have been immensely proud of the occasion.
A total of 62 calves were generously donated by farmers from near and far — a gesture organisers described as both humbling and inspiring. The overwhelming willingness of the farming community to contribute so wholeheartedly reflected the deep respect held for Danny, as well as the enduring spirit of solidarity within the sector.
The response to the sale was exceptional, with a large turnout creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere around the ring. As well as the calf sale there were raffle tickets on sale and like the calf sale this surpassed all expectations, with organisers describing ticket sales as “nothing short of phenomenal.” The level of generosity and engagement ensured the event exceeded all initial hopes.
Proceeds from the day will benefit the Mid Western Cancer Foundation and Milford Care Centre, two organisations that hold a special place in the hearts of many. The success of the fundraiser will make a meaningful and lasting contribution to both.
Bruree Rockhill & Friends “United Against Cancer”, the organisers of this event, extend their sincere thanks to everyone who played a part — including the management and staff of Golden Vale Mart, Kilmallock, for their commitment and organisation, which were instrumental in bringing the event to fruition. They also wish to thank the many generous individuals who donated calves, purchased them, or made cash donations in lieu of calves, as well as all those who sold and bought raffle tickets or contributed in any way to making the day such a success
In every respect, the day stood as a fitting tribute — a celebration of community, generosity, and remembrance. As many reflected, Danny Deady would indeed have been very proud.
This forms part of a wider series of events organised by the Bruree Rockhill Community & Friends, aimed at supporting the fight against cancer while giving back to the wider community.
