The Bog Garden Rathkeale was the venue for this 5th round championship match against Mungret. Bruree played with a strong wind in the first half. Mungret scored the first point of the match within thirty seconds of the throw in. Minutes later Kieran O'Dea levelled the score with a free after Gerard O'Brien was fouled. Sam Cronolly put bruree ahead with a point after great work by Patrick Carey. A minute later Kieran O'Dea extended bruree's lead with another pointed free, after Gerard O'Brien was fouled again.



Mungret hit back with two points of there own one from a free and one from play. From the puckout Bruree won a line ball and up stood Shane Mullane who from forty metres out put over a fantastic point.Tommy Cronolly won possession from Mungret's puckout and he found Partick Deady who struck over a long distance point. Mungret replied with a point from a free. On twenty minutes came two goal chances for Mungret but goalkeeper Daniel Lane pulled off a brilliant save, the rebound fell to another Mungret player and he's shot was deflected again brilliantly over the bar this time by Gerard O'Brien.


On twenty one minutes a long puckout by Daniel Lane found he's brother Michael and from the sideline put over an excellent point. Mungret replied with there own point from play. Patrick Deady then scored he's second point of the match with a well taken point from he's own half back line. Both teams would exchange points with Mungret's point coming from play and Kieran O'Dea from a free after he's brother Gerard was fouled. Mungret would get the last point of the half from a sixty five to leave the scores at the break Bruree 0-08 Mungret 0-08.


Bruree started the second half quickly with a fantastic point by corner forward Sam Cronolly. But Mungret struck back with a goal to give them a two point lead. They extended there lead with another pointed free. Kieran O'Dea won possession from the Puckout and was fouled. Kieran pointed the free. Mungret then hit three points in a row one from a free and two from play to give them a five point lead. Kieran O'Dea would again reply with another point from a free after Michael Lane was fouled going through on goal. The next five minutes saw Mungret score four points from play to stretch there lead to eight points.


Bruree needed a goal and it duly came with twelve minutes remaining. Great work from Sam Cronolly found Cathal Barrington and he blasted to the net to reduce Mungret's lead to five points. The last ten minutes saw both teams score points, three for Mungret two from play and one from a placed ball and two points for Bruree both frees scored by Kieran O'Dea again after Michael Lane was fouled on both occasions. This left six points between the sides. In injury time Bruree were reduced to 14 players and from the resulting free scored the last point of the match to leave the final score Bruree 1-13 Mungret 1-20.


It was a disspointing loss but the players and management team have two weeks to prepare and get the team back on track as Round 6 v Pallasgreen will take place in Bruff on Saturday week the 31st August.
