Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 6

Bruree 2-11

Pallasgreen 0-12

Bruree and Pallasgreen battled it out in Round 6 of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship played in Bruff. Conditions were dry but very windy. The opening minutes saw both sides exchange points all from frees. Pallasgreen scoring two points and Bruree's point coming from the stick of Kieran O'Dea. The first point from play came Bruree's way when an excellent pass from Michael Lane found Kieran O'Dea who put it straight over the bar. A minute later Tommy Cronolly won possession and found Jimmy O'Dea on the run with a great pass who excellently went on to point Bruree's second from play. Dea. Kieran O' Dea added to Bruree's lead with a point from a 65. Then came Bruree's first goal of the match. A long ball in by midfielder Tommy Cronolly was brilliantly flicked down by full forward Shane Mullane onto Michael Lane who blasted the ball into the far corner of the net. Bruree won possession from the next puckout and when it fell to Gerard O'Dea he took on the Pallasgreen defence and was fouled on the way through. Up stood sharp shooter Kieran O'Dea and he pointed Bruree's fifth point of the match.

On sixteen minutes Bruree won another 65 and again Kieran O'Dea pointed with ease. The next few minutes saw bruree waste several chances to extend there lead with bad Wides. This would leave Pallasgreen with a chance to close the gap and this is exactly what they did with four points three from frees and one from play in the last ten minutes of the half. This left the half time score Bruree 1-06 Pallasgreen 0-06.

Pallasgreen started the second half the quickest with three points within six minutes to level up the match. Bruree had to respond and thats what they did. Donal Deady received the ball and brilliantly found Sam Cronolly unmarked and Sam found the Pallasgreen net with a low hard drive for Bruree's second goal. Pallasgreen replied with a pointed free. From Daniel Lane's long puckout Donal Deady won possession and on the turn was fouled. Kieran O'Dea pointed the resulting free to put bruree three points ahead again.

Bruree should of had a third goal when Sam Cronolly got through the Pallasgreen defence but unfortunately he's low shot went narrowly wide. Pallasgreen wudnt lie down and hit two points in a row the first from a free and the second from play. But it was bruree that finished the strongest with three points from play and one from a free. kieran O'Dea 0-02 Sam Cronolly and Jimmy O'Dea sealed victory for Bruree to move them up to six points in the table with one match remaining in two weeks time. The defeat also saw Pallasgreen relegated to Intermediate Hurling for 2020. Bruree showed great heart and determination this evening but will have to up it more for the round 7 match v Blackrock.

Bruree defended very well at the back with Kieran O'Rourke on top form. Goalkeeper Daniel Lane very safe and assured in goal. Going forward was great at times. The Midfielders and forward lines worked tirelessly.Alot to work on but winning is a great feeling and momentum at this time of the championship is vital. We'll done to all the players and the management team and the backroom team. A huge thank you to all the supporters who were there as well.
