Junior B – South Junior A Hurling League Round 2
7th of April Bruree 2-15 (21) Staker Wallace 2-13 (19). Our first outing in the South Junior A League vs. Staker Wallace was not without it’s highlights. Bruree began the game slow with us conceding a few points and an early goal from Eoin Treacy. With the wind however, we soon found our feet with points coming from Donie Deady, John O’Connell and Michael Shinney.A twenty-one-yard goal from a placed ball by Mike Shinney helped to spur us on to a three point lead at half time. The second half saw us playing against the wind which needed us to stay steadfast in defence which Darragh McDonagh and William Sexton saw to. This coupled with great ball movement by Patrick Deady (CB) and John O’Connell (HB), saw the game stay neck in neck. With ten minutes to go a looping ball from Lawrence Sexton to Fionnbarr Fitzpatrick ended in a pass to debutant Seán Riordan found the net. This cancelled out an earlier goal by Stakers from Eoin Sheedy (SW) and left us with a two point lead. This gave Riordan a total tally of (1-3) for the game. The final minutes were dominated by back and forth play between the two teams which would eventually see us emerge as victors. Special plaudits go to debutants: Darragh McDonagh, Kevin Hayden and John O’Connell. Special Mention also to Lawrence Sexton who togged out for the team in their hour of need and was crucial in the build-up play for the winning goal. Team Daniel Lane, Darragh McDonogh, William Sexton, Jonathan Fitzpatrick, John O'Connell, Patrick Deady, Fionan O'Driscoll, Donal Deady, Kevin Hayden, Fionnbarr Fitzpatrick, Ronan O'Halloran, Michael Shinney, Sean Riordan, Michael Brouder, Lawrence Sexton
South Intermediate Hurling League
8th of April Bruree 5-20 Castletown Ballyagran 1-14. Bruree’s South Intermediate League opener saw us play Castletown Ballyagran away. The game opened with a goal from Kieran O’Dea. This was soon levelled however, by three quick fire points from Ballyagran. Kieran O’Dea was involved in the second goal also which would see Sam Cronolly find the net.A delightful double would see Cronolly find the net soon after helping us to bolster our lead in the first half. Ballyagran rallied toward the end of the first half with a goal. Points from Frankie Barrington and Michael Lane would see us finish the half with a respectable score of 4-14 to Ballyagran’s 1-9.Bruree showed no signs of slowing down in the second half with every forward and midfielder getting on the score sheet including Conor Frawley who opened his account with Bruree with two points. The highlight of the second half was a magnificent solo run from Michael Lane which began at the forty five yard line and ended in a goal, giving Lane a total tally of 1-5 for the match. Ballyagran found it hard to break our defence in the second half which led to us only conceding five points. The game was closed out by points from Tommy Cronolly who finished with a tally of two. The game finished at 5-20 to 1-14 which reflects Bruree’s brilliance on the pitch. This great win is a credit to all players involved in the team. Team: Fionn O’Brien, Jimmy Leslie, Shane Feane, Eamonn Lyons, Jimmy O’Dea, Patrick Carey, Sam Williams, Tommy Cronolly, Conor Frawley, Sam Cronolly, Michael Lane, Brian Sexton, Kieran O’Dea, Paddy Lynch, Frankie Barrington, Kevin Hayden, Darragh McDonagh, Brian O’Rourke, Kieran O’Rourke
